05/30/2004 3:38 PM - Some hard luck coupled with some timely Lincoln Saltdog hitting caused a sweep of the Kansas City T-Bones at the hands of Lincoln tonight at Haymarket Park.

The Saltdogs took the first game 11-5 behind home runs from Jorge Moreno, Charles Peterson and JuJu Foreman. The T-Bones hopped out to an early lead behind solo shots from Eddie Pearson, his fourth of the season, and Chad Shindle, his second.

That was the last lead the T-Bones would have, however. Starter Ralph McCasland allowed three runs in the second when Josh Patton singled to left and advanced to second on an infield single by Kevin Sullivan. Third baseman Chad Shindle threw past first in an attempt to get Sullivan and Patton came in to score. Darren Doskocil then grounded out to Shindle, but first baseman Ray Brown attempted to nail Sullivan moving from second to third. The throw eluded pitcher McCasland covering third and Sullivan scored to tie the game 2-2. Foreman singled in Brad Bouras, who had also singled, to make it 3-2.

Charles Peterson smacked a two-run homer against McCasland in the third to make it 5-2, and an RBI single by Foreman and a two-run homer by Moreno made it 8-2 after four.

Lincoln plated three more in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Eric Horner, one coming on Foreman’s first pro home run and the other two scoring on RBI singles by Josh Patton and Kevin Sullivan.

The T-Bones came back with three in the seventh against Saltdog reliever Byron Embry, two coming on a triple by Rick Prieto, his first of the season.

Adam Springston, who hurled 5 IP while striking out five and allowing just four hits, earned his second win of the season for Lincoln. Ralph McCasland received the loss for the T-Bones.

The second game was scoreless into the 7th inning. The Saltdogs had their chances, as did the T-Bones. Lincoln loaded the bases in the third with no outs, but starter Jonathan Krysa struck out the side to end the threat. The T-Bones had a golden opportunity in the fourth with runners on second and third and nobody out, but starter Mike Zipser retired the side.

The T-Bones looked as if they would score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh when Hiroshi Fujimoto singled to left with pinch-runner Chad Hill on second, but the throw from left fielder Jorge Moreno nailed Hill at the plate to preserve the scoreless tie.

Josh Patton hit the second pitch of the bottom of the seventh over the right field fence to give Lincoln a 1-0 win in the nightcap. Krysa’s record falls to 1-2, while Zipser improves to 1-2 with the shutout.

The teams come back in the finale of the series tomorrow at 2:05 pm from Haymarket Park. As with all T-Bones games, tomorrow’s game will be broadcast live on All Comedy Radio 1340 as well as www.tbonesbaseball.com.
