05/28/2004 3:32 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones spoiled the 2004 home opener for the Lincoln Saltdogs, putting up 12 runs on 18 hits in front of 4,477 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, NE.

The Saltdogs scored early, with a Jorge Moreno double followed by a Bryan Warner fly to right that advanced Moreno to third. Charles Peterson's single plated Moreno and made it 1-0, Lincoln.

The T-Bones tied it in the second, when Cody Nowlin, who had doubled, came in to score on a passed ball.

The T-Bones made it 4-1 in the fifth when Jack Jones singled in Rick Prieto and Eddie Pearson followed Jones' single with a two-run blast to left-center.

Lincoln closed the gap to 4-2 with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth, but Pearson and the T-Bones weren't done. The T-Bones loaded the bases against starter Hideki Nagasaka, who gave way to reliever Travis Teeter. Teeter then served up a gopher ball to Pearson, his second of the game; this gave Pearson six RBI on the contest.

The T-Bones scored four more in the eighth with a run-scoring Cody Nowlin (4-for-5, 2 2B) double, a Rick Prieto single, and run-scoring groundouts by Matt Ceriani and Phil Thompson.

Today was a day to break out of slumps for the T-Bones. Pearson, who came in hitting .188, was 4-for-5 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. Chad Shindle, who had been mired in an 0-for-24 slump, had two singles. And Rick Prieto, who came in with an on-base percentage of .314, reached base all six times he came to the plate.

Jon McDonald gave the bullpen a day off for the T-Bones, working eight innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits. McDonald earned his first win of the season, while Hideki Nagasaka was tagged with his first loss.

Tomorrow night at 7:05, the T-Bones send Ralph McCasland to the hill to take on Saltdog Adam Springston. The game, like all T-Bones games, will be on All Comedy Radio 1340 as well as www.tbonesbaseball.com.
