Flyers Win Third in Row, 9-3

05/27/2004 3:28 PM - The Schaumburg Flyers took advantage of a handful of miscues by the Kansas City T-Bones, winning their third in a row, 9-3, in front of 4,304 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Schaumburg started off the scoring with Geoff McCallum coming around to score in the first on a throwing error by second baseman Rick Prieto. The T-Bones struck back quickly, with a two-run shot by Jack Jones in the bottom of the first to give them a 2-1 lead.

Schaumburg came back to tie it in the top of the second against T-Bones starter Caleb Balbuena, who left the game in the second due to stiffness in his elbow. Eric Cole came around to score after singling and stealing second.

The T-Bones rallied in the second, but left the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning. The third inning saw Ray Brown homer to right, his fourth of the season, which gave the T-Bones a 3-2 lead.

Schaumburg rallied for three runs in the fourth against T-Bones reliever John Howerton, who came into the game ranked tenth in the league in ERA with a 1.17 mark. RBI singles by Chris Weekly, Geoff McCallum and Mario Delgado gave the Flyers a 5-3 lead, and they never looked back.

Two more Schaumburg runs in the sixth against T-Bones reliever Matt McClellan - a Justin Hendrickson solo homer and a Kirk Pierce run-scoring single - made it 7-3. The T-Bones brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the inning, but Jack Jones struck out with the bases loaded.

Schaumburg completed the scoring with two unearned runs against reliever D.J. Johnson in the top of the ninth.

The T-Bones take to the road for a four-game set against the Lincoln Saltdogs, but return home Wednesday for a quick four-game homestand against the St. Paul Saints. Tomorrow night's game will be a 7:05 start in Lincoln, with Jon McDonald of the T-Bones taking on Hideki Nagasaka of the Saltdogs. Like all T-Bones games, this one will be carried live on All Comedy Radio 1340.
