T-Bones, Flyers Split Twin Bill

05/25/2004 3:15 PM - When the Kansas City T-Bones (3-3) and Schaumburg Flyers (5-1) started off today’s ballgame, Schaumburg led 4-3. The T-Bones eked out a win in the first game of the doubleheader, 7-6, but dropped the second, 8-1.

The first game saw Schaumburg go up 4-0 thanks to a Ben Van Iderstine homer and three run-scoring singles. The T-Bones came back with three in the bottom of the second when Ray Brown homered and a throwing error by Flyers starter Mike Ott allowed two runs to score.

The game was suspended due to rain with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, resumed tonight. The T-Bones couldn’t muster any runs in the bottom of the fourth, but plated three in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Gabe DeHoyos, one scoring on a Rick Prieto single and two coming across on a Chris LePine infield single with two outs.

Schaumburg tied it with two against reliever Matt McClellan (W, 1-0) in the top of the eighth, but the T-Bones loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Chad Shindle was then hit by a pitch by Schaumburg reliever Brett Gray (L, 0-1) to force in the winning run and give the T-Bones a 7-6 victory in the first game.

The second game saw Flyer starter Brad Ziegler hold the T-Bones to one hit in the first six innings. The Flyers scored two against T-Bones starter Jonathan Krysa (L, 1-1) in the fourth on a Justin Hendrickson double, which proved to be all they would need.

Schaumburg scored one in the fifth on an Eric Cole double, one in the sixth on a Geoff McCallum double and four more in the seventh on three consecutive singles against T-Bones reliever Wade Clark to make it 8-0.

The T-Bones got their lone run in the game in the bottom of the seventh when Ray Brown, who was playing in his 1,000th minor league game tonight, was hit by a pitch and scored on a Matt Ceriani double.

The two teams will face off tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The T-Bones will start RHP Jayson Sigley (0-1) against Flyers RHP Brett Gray (0-0). It’s a Kansas City Star/Sam’s Club Family Night, meaning a family of four can get four hot dogs, tickets, and Cokes – plus popcorn – for just $25!
