T-Bones Drop Tough One, 6-2

05/14/2004 2:02 PM - The Sioux City Explorers hosted their annual D.A.R.E Celebration game on Thursday night, and it resulted in a 6-2 victory over the T-Bones of Kansas City.

Third baseman Justin Carroll opened the Explorer half of the second with a double down the left field line. JD Sholten, Carroll’s pinch runner, would score the games first run on a single off the bat catcher Danny Pinkerton. Carroll went three-for-five pounding out a pair of doubles in the victory.

Kansas City responded with a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at one apiece. Sioux City responded in the bottom of half of the sixth inning as first baseman Desi Wilson led off the inning with a walk and that was followed by a Carroll walk. Sholten would again enter to run for Wilson, crossed the plate as Bobby Brown belted a double to right center. Carroll, who moved to third on the Brown double, would later score on a wild pitch, giving the Explorers a 3-1 lead after six innings. Brown finished the game two-for-four with a pair of RBI’s.

The Explorers would pick up a pair of runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to secure the victory. Sioux City used five pitchers in the victory, led by starter Chris Swiatkiewicz, who started the game and threw three innings to pick up the win. Swiatkiewicz struck out two and allowed a pair of hits. Adam Shafer followed Swiatkiewicz and struck out five batters in three innings of work. Sean Kramer, John St. Amant, and Brandon Sloan all pitched an inning to finish out the game.
