Fasano Plates Six in T-Bones Victory

08/26/2009 10:19 PM -

Jim Fasano drove capped off a six-RBI performance with a ninth-inning grand slam as the Kansas City T-Bones (43-48) defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (52-38) tonight, 12-4, at Newman Outdoor Field.  The Schaumburg Flyers (41-50) also won tonight, keeping the T-Bones lead for the final playoff spot at two games with five to play.

Luis Terrero gave the T-Bones a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly off Jeff Icenogle (3-2) in the first, but Jeremiah Piepkorn answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame to give Fargo an advantage against Dustin Bolton (7-5).

A solo home run by Jacob Blackwood and RBI single by Damian Rolls allowed Kansas City to regain their final lead in the second.  Rolls added another run on a basehit in the third before the RedHawks scored their final run against Bolton on a single by Piepkorn in the bottom of the frame.

Bolton lasted seven innings for Kansas City, earning the victory with three runs on seven hits.  Icenogle allowed two more runs on a two-out double by Fasano in the sixth before giving way to Yosandy Ibanez.  Icenogle was charged with six runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings in the loss.

Kansas City gained a 7-3 advantage on an RBI single by Terrero in the eighth before Fargo plated their final run against reliever Chris Rhoads on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning.  Rhoads allowed one unearned run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning in relief of Bolton.  Payton Tweddale induced a groundout for the final out in the eighth.

Aharon Eggleston drove in a run with a single in the ninth before Kansas City loaded the bases against Zach Weber with two out.  Fasano capped off the night with the slam, pushing the final to 12-4.  Fasano finished a triple shy of the cycle, going three-for-six with six RBI in the game.

Weston Curles threw a perfect ninth to end the game for the T-Bones.  Craig Hurba went 0-for-five to snap a 12-game hit streak, the longest active streak in the league.  He was the only Kansas City player without a hit in the contest.

Reigning Northern League Pitcher of the Week Brett Davis (1-0, 1.80) will make his third professional start tomorrow afternoon as Kansas City looks for a series victory against Scott Fogelson (3-2, 3.91) and the RedHawks.  First pitch is set for 12:30.
