Rookie Hurler Named Pitcher of the Week

08/24/2009 12:39 PM -

The Northern League has announced that Kansas City T-Bones pitcher Brett Davis has been named Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 23.

Davis, 23, signed with the T-Bones earlier in the week and earned a seven-inning complete game victory in his professional debut on August 18 versus Schaumburg.  The left-hander yielded just one run on seven hits in game one of the doubleheader.  He followed up that performance with eight innings of two-run ball on August 22 versus Joliet.  Overall on the week, he went 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA while striking out 15 and walking only one.

In his pro debut, Davis allowed just one runner to reach third base through the first six innings, retiring six-in-a-row at one point in the outing.  Four days later, he threw eight innings for Kansas City, striking out eight in a no-decision.  The T-Bones eventually won the game after scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Davis was signed on August 17 as a free agent out of Oklahoma State University (Stillwater, OK).  He played two seasons at Oklahoma State after transferring from Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ) following a medical redshirt season in 2007.  In two seasons with the Cowboys he posted a 3-2 record while appearing in 25 games, one start.  He began his collegiate career playing two years at Seward County Community College (Liberal, KS).

The T-Bones will finish the regular season on the road with four-game sets in Fargo and Joliet.  They begin their series against the RedHawks tonight with first pitch set for 7:00.  Left-hander Ryan Knippschild is scheduled to start for the T-Bones opposite right-hander Billy Weitzman for Fargo.  To follow Kansas City as they make their push for the playoffs, tune into KXTR 1660 AM or click the listen live link on www.tbonesbaseball.com
