Late Rally Gives T-Bones 8-4 Win

The Kansas City T-Bones (32-41) scored seven times over their final four innings as they earned their first win in Fargo this season with an 8-4 victory tonight over the RedHawks (39-31) at Newman Outdoor Field.

Fargo jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Luis Villarreal in the first inning, scoring their first run on an RBI single by Ruben Salazar.  After a passed ball moved runners to second and third, Jeremiah Piepkorn doubled with two outs to cap off the inning.

Aharon Eggleston pushed the score to 4-1 with an RBI single off Jeff Icenogle in the third inning.  The RedHawks regained a four-run lead in the fifth on a solo home run by Nic Jackson, finishing their scoring on the night.

Villarreal allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits over his five and two-thirds innings.  Cody McAllister (5-3) entered with two outs and a runner on in the sixth.  After walking the first batter he faced, McAllister got Zach Penprase to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the inning.  He earned the win after just one-third of an inning.

Kansas City pulled within one in the sixth on a two-run double by Jacob Blackwood (pictured).  Icenogle left after six innings having surrendered three runs on six hits.  He did not factor into the decision.

Reliever Jeremy Hauer (0-2) entered for Fargo in the seventh and surrendered the lead on an RBI fielder’s choice by Greg Jacobs.  After a popout by Craig Hurba, Neb Brown doubled home Jacobs for the T-Bones one and only lead of the game, 5-4.  Hauer loaded the bases in the eighth but induced a popout by Jacobs to end the threat.

Justin James threw a scoreless seventh before surrendering a walk and two hits to load the bases in the eighth.  After a strikeout by Penprase, Payton Tweddale entered and struck out Jackson to end the inning and preserve the T-Bones 5-4 advantage.

Blackwood struck again in the top of the ninth with a two-run single to push Kansas City’s lead to three.  The next batter, Jeff Helps, singled home Jim Fasano to cap the score at 8-4.

Nate Cotton threw a perfect ninth to finish the game for Kansas City.  Blackwood finished two-for-four with four RBI to pace the T-Bones.

Damian Rolls posted his second straight three-hit night with a three-for-four performance.  After snapping a 0-for-25 on Monday, Rolls has now reached safely in nine of his last 12 plate appearances, going seven-for-10 with a hit by pitch and a walk in that span.  Aharon Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 32 games with a single in the third inning.  He finished two-for-five in the contest.

Derek Duclos (0-3, 4.91) and the T-Bones look to force a series split tomorrow night against Broc Coffman (8-4, 5.40) and Fargo.  First pitch is set for 7:00.
