T-Bones Trying To Make Fans Rich, Re-sign Mike Brown

02/02/2005 7:47 AM - KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City T-Bones are pleased to announce the “Win to Win” program for the 2005 season. For just $139, fans will receive Choice tickets ($150 value) to fifteen T-Bones games of their choice this summer. The fun doesn’t end with the ballgames, though; if the T-Bones win all fifteen selected games, a fan who has selected those games will win $10,000!

T-Bones Manager “Dirty” Al Gallagher wants to make someone rich. With that in mind, the Kansas City T-Bones have re-signed infielder Mike Brown and also signed two rookies to augment the 2005 squad.

After coming over from the Gary-Southshore RailCats in a mid-July trade, Brown caught fire, hitting .322 in 47 games. In that time, Brown socked seven home runs and drove in forty-seven runs. The T-Bones had a number of highlights as they drove to the Northern League playoffs, and it can be argued that Mike Brown had the biggest hit of all: a two-out, three-run walk-off homer against Sioux City reliever Sean Kramer that catapulted the T-Bones to an 8-7 win on August 26.

The T-Bones have also signed two newcomers: infielder Ryan Freiburger and catcher Brad Flanders. Flanders is a familiar name to fans of Mizzou baseball, as he was the starting catcher for the Tigers for two seasons before suffering a broken hand in 2004. Flanders, mentioned on the “Watch List” for the Johnny Bench Award (top collegiate catcher in the nation), began his professional career in 2004 with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League, hitting .259 in thirteen games.

Freiburger played his college baseball at Oakland (Mich.) University, where he played middle infield and was team captain his senior year. A defensive stalwart, Freiburger batted .287 in four seasons at Oakland, which is also the alma mater of 2004 T-Bones David Viane and Matt McClellan.

“It’s great to have Mike Brown back. He was really one of the integral parts of our playoff run,” said Gallagher. “We also feel like Flanders and Freiburger can contribute to our squad and we look forward to getting them in uniform.”
