Kansas City Drops Rubber Match, 3-2

The Schaumburg Flyers (13-7) scored two runs in the seventh inning en route to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (10-10) this afternoon at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Kansas City scored both of their runs in the contest in the first inning against Carmen Pignatiello (2-1).  After Neb Brown walked and Damian Rolls was hit by a pitch to begin the game, both runners moved up a base on a passed ball by Stephen Yoo.  Greg Jacobs then drove Brown in with a groundout for the first tally.  The next batter, Craig Hurba, reached on a fielder’s choice when Rolls slide under the throw home on another groundball induced by Pignatiello.  Jim Fasano hit into a double play to end the frame.

Pignatiello allowed just three hits in seven innings of work, earning the victory after surrendering two runs, one earned, in the contest.

Kansas City starter Chris Rhoads held the Flyers scoreless until the third inning.  T.J. Wilson started the inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Travis Brown.  After advancing to third on a throwing error during an attempted pickoff by Rhoads, Wilson scored on a groundout by Yoo.

Rhoads left in favor of Payton Tweddale (0-2) after walking the first batter of the Schaumburg seventh.  Following another bunt single by Wilson and sacrifice by Brown, Yoo singled home both runners to give the Flyers a 3-2 advantage.

Rhoads allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits in six-plus innings.  He would not factor into the decision.  Tweddale took the loss after allowing one run on two hits in his two-thirds of an inning.

Daniel Sattler got the final four outs for Kansas City.  The T-Bones pushed the tying run to second against Craig James in the ninth, but the right-hander earned his fourth save after striking out the final two batters in the frame.
