The Kansas City T-Bones (8-8) dropped game one of a doubleheader to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (12-4) this morning, 4-2, in 12 innings at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City struck first in front of 4,623 fans, scoring one run off Ace Walker in the third inning on an RBI single by Aharon Eggleston.  The Goldeyes answered quickly against Luis Villarreal, using an RBI double by Dee Brown to tie the game at one.

Those were the only runs either starter would allow as neither factored into the decision.  Villarreal left after six innings, allowing four hits while striking out four.  Walker went seven and two-thirds, surrendering just three hits while striking out two.

Daniel Sattler and Payton Tweddale threw two innings each in relief of Villarreal, before giving way to Blair Johnson (0-1) in the 11th.

The scoring picked up again in the 11th when both teams plated a run each.  Adam Frost, who pinch-ran for Juan Diaz in the ninth, tripled for Winnipeg with one out and scored on a groundout by Cory Patton.  Damian Rolls evened the score with a solo home run off Matt Davis (2-1) to begin the bottom of the frame.

The Goldeyes added the decisive runs in the 12th, scoring two unearned runs off Johnson on two hits and an error.  Cody Ehlers led off the inning with a single and scored the first run when Dustin Richardson reached on a throwing error by Neb Brown.  Richardson later scored on a double by Brent Metheny to cap off the frame.

Davis threw a perfect bottom of the 12th to close out the game and secure the win.  He allowed one run on one hit in his two innings of work.  Johnson took the loss after allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits in two innings.

Kansas City’s first five batters combined to go two-for-24 in the contest.

The two teams prepare to face off in game two of the twinbill, with Justin James taking the mound for Kansas City opposite Andrew Cruse.
