T-Bones’ Bullpen May Hang on a Chad

02/16/2005 7:37 AM - KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City T-Bones announced Tuesday the signing of right-handed reliever Chad Sosebee. Sosebee, 27, has pitched for the independent Frontier League’s Richmond (Ind.) Roosters for parts of the last five seasons, beginning in 2000.

A native of Carrollton, GA, Sosebee played his college baseball at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, GA. His professional career has been a storied one, capped off by a 2004 season in which the Roosters retired his #11 jersey and he was named the Frontier League’s Pitcher of the Year and the circuit’s Reliever of the Year.

Sosebee held the Frontier League in check each of the last two seasons. In 2003, he made sixteen appearances for Richmond, all in relief, posting a 1-1 record and a stellar 1.01 ERA. In the 2004 season, Sosebee was dominant. In 52 appearances out of the bullpen, the righthander was 12-4 with a 2.02 ERA. Opponents hit just .196 against Sosebee, who struck out 81 in 89.0 innings.

On August 30, 2004, Sosebee capped off his Frontier League career, playing all nine defensive positions for the Roosters and earning the save in the game, a 3-0 win over the Kalamazoo Kings. Sosebee regularly played shortstop for Richmond as the season came to a close, hitting .202 with 4 HR and 14 RBI in just 89 at-bats.

For his career, Sosebee is 25-17 with a 3.31 ERA in 215 relief appearances over five seasons.

“Chad needs a chance to show his skills in the Northern League, and we’re happy to give it to him,” said T-Bones Manager “Dirty” Al Gallagher. “He’ll primarily be a pitcher for us, but he can hit a little bit. We’re hoping we’ve found another Georgia Peach.”
