The Kansas City T-Bones received another solid outing from Ryan Knippschild, but the Winnipeg Goldeyes tied the game with a two-run ninth and used an RBI single by Cody Ehlers in the tenth to prevent a three-game sweep, 6-5, at Canwest Park.

Knippschild held Winnipeg scoreless through his first five innings before surrendering his only run, an unearned tally in the sixth.  Following a flyout from Kevin West, the Goldeyes collected back-to-back singles from Juan Diaz and Cory Patton.  Dee Brown then grounded to third and reached safely with a fielder’s choice after Patton broke up a double play attempt at second.  On the play, second baseman Damian Rolls overthrew first base after getting tangled up with Patton, allowing Diaz to score from second.

Knippschild allowed six hits and struck out four over six innings, but would not factor into the decision.

Kansas City opened the scoring in the third inning against Ace Walker.  Jeff Helps began the inning with a single before Eric Scriven attempted to sacrifice him over.  Both runners were safe on the play when first baseman Ehlers threw wildly to second.  The next batter, Aharon Eggleston, drove both runners in with a double and later scored on a two-bagger by Brad Correll.

The T-Bones chased Walker in the seventh, beginning with three straight singles to begin the frame.  After a bases-loaded strikeout by Scriven, Zach Baldwin entered and got Eggleston to ground into a fielder’s choice that erased the lead runner at home.  Chris Homer came in and immediately surrendered a two-run single to Rolls as Kansas City extended their lead to 5-1.

Walker surrendered five runs, four earned, on nine hits over six and one-thirds innings in a no-decision.

Cody McAllister relieved Knippschild in the seventh and got two quick outs before allowing two straight hits, including an RBI double by Brent Metheny.  Metheny advanced to third on the throw home from left and scored when catcher Ryan Fox overthrew third base in an attempt to get Metheny.

Following a perfect eighth, McAllister allowed doubles to Ehlers and Dustin Richardson in the ninth with Richardson’s pulling Winnipeg within one.  David Trahan entered and surrendered a hit to his first batter, Long, that plated Richardson and tied the game at five.

Andy Shipman struck out the first batter in the tenth, Diaz, but a passed ball allowed him to reach first safely.  After Patton sacrificed pinch-runner Adam Frost to second, Ehlers ended the contest with an RBI single to left.

Shipman took the loss for Kansas City while Matt Davis threw the final two scoreless innings for the win.
