Fasano Named Postseason Most Outstanding Player09/22/2008 12:49 PM - The Northern League has announced that T-Bones designated hitter Jim Fasano was named the Most Outstanding Player for the 2008 playoffs. Fasano hit .571 in the Northern League Championship Series leading the T-Bones to their first league title since moving to Kansas City in 2003.
Fasano, 25, hit .462 with three home runs and 10 RBI through the T-Bones seven playoff games. His on-base percentage was .533 while he slugged .846. His 10 RBI and 12 playoff hits led all postseason participants. His three round-trippers all came in the championship series and were good for second behind .
“This is the perfect way to cap off a great season for Jim,” said T-Bones manager Andy McCauley. “There were a lot of players on this team deserving of this awards but he really earned it after a great postseason.”
The award caps a season in which he led the league in home runs (20) and tied for the league lead in RBI (84). Additionally, he led the circuit in extra-base hits (49), finished second in doubles (29) while finishing with a .292 average. He was also voted in as a starter in 2008 Northern League All-Star Game played on July 8 in Winnipeg. Having a career year, also earned him a spot on the 2008 postseason all-star team as well.
Fasano was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the ninth round in 2004. He spent the first four seasons of his career in the Rangers system before signing with the T-Bones this past off-season. He reached as high as Class AA Frisco in ’06 and ’07 playing in a total of 165 games over the two seasons. He hit .275 for his career in the Texas system with 41 home runs and 232 RBI. |
