KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Former Royal Ken Harvey (pictured) began a five-run eighth inning with a two-run home run off the left field foul pole as the Kansas City T-Bones moved one win away from the Northern League Championship Series with a 7-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones scored first in the contest against Garry Bakker, plating two runs in the second inning on three hits.  Craig Hurba drove in the first run with an infield single, plating Jim Fasano who started the frame with a basehit.  Aharon Eggleston capped off the inning when he drove home Neb Brown on a fielder’s choice to short.

Chris Rhoads held Fargo scoreless until the fifth inning when he surrendered an RBI single to Carlo Cota with two outs.  He was charged with the RedHawks’ final run in the seventh inning when Joe Mathis drove in Kole Zimmerman with a sacrifice fly off reliever Payton Tweddale.  Zimmerman tripled to begin the inning, chasing Rhoads from the game.

Rhoads allowed two runs on seven hits in his six-plus innings.  He did not factor into the decision.

Brady Martinez allowed a single and two walks, one intentional, to his first three batters in relief of Tweddale before inducing a fielder’s choice from Jeremiah Piepkorn for the second out in the seventh.  Todd Moser came in and got Steve Mortimer to fly out to left with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Bakker came back out to start the eight and allowed a leadoff single to Greg Jacobs to begin the frame.  The next batter, Harvey, lined a ball off the left field foul pole to put Kansas City up 4-2.  Bakker picked up one out in the inning before leaving in favor of Scott Koerber with a man on first.  Koerber surrendered a single to his only batter before Donnie Smith came in for Fargo.

Smith allowed a run to score on a wild pitch before surrendering runs on a sacrifice fly from Geoff McCallum and RBI double by Eggleston to cap off the frame.  Bakker suffered the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits over seven and one-thirds innings.

Moser pitched the final two and one-thirds innings for Kansas City, holding the RedHawks scoreless while allowing just one hit for the victory.  Four T-Bones collected multiple hits with Hurba leading the charge with a three-for-three night.  Eggleston and Harvey drove in two runs a piece.  Zimmerman paced Fargo with a three-for-three night.

Kansas City looks to finish a first-round sweep of the RedHawks tomorrow night in game three of a best-of-five series at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.  Neither team has announced their starters for the contest.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
