Watson Returns to T-Bones

08/26/2008 9:45 PM -

Upon being given his release by the Philadelphia Phillies organization, Rob Watson returns to the Kansas City T-Bones for the remainder of the regular season and, if necessary, the playoffs.  Watson was signed by the Phillies on July 17, after hitting .348 with eight home runs and 43 RBI.  His numbers were good enough to be voted in as the starting second baseman in the Northern League All-Star Game in Winnipeg.

The T-Bones were two games above .500 at 29-27 after Watson’s last game; with him out of the lineup the team has gone 14-20 and currently sits at 43-47.

Watson was the T-Bones’ every-day second baseman when he was signed by the Phillies organization.  Following his departure the T-Bones signed former St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Bo Hart, who remains with the team.  Hart will continue to play second and Watson is in the lineup as the starting third baseman today against the Joliet JackHammers.

With Class A Clearwater, Watson was hitting .115 with a home run while playing sparingly.  He and fellow T-Bone Kevin Mahar were both signed at the same time by the Phillies and both were playing in Clearwater.

The T-Bones currently lead the JackHammers by three games for fourth place in the Northern League standings with only six games remaining in the regular season.  Kansas City could clinch the final playoff spot as early as Wednesday with wins in the first two games of the three-game series with Joliet that begins tonight at 7:05.
