FARGO, N.D. – An early five-run deficit proved too much for Kansas City tonight as the T-Bones fell, 8-4, to the first-place Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field.

Fargo jumped on T-Bones starter Anthony Boughner quickly, plating four runs on three hits in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead after one.  The first four batters reached on a pair of walks and hits, with Carlo Cota and Jimmy Hurst each driving in a run in that span.  A sacrifice fly by Steve Mortimer and RBI double by Jeff Eure capped off the frame.

The RedHawks picked up an unearned run in the third when Mortimer led off the frame with a hit by pitch and advanced two bases on a wild pitch.  He came home for Fargo’s fifth run on a passed ball by Craig Hurba.

Boughner allowed two more runs in the fifth, the first on an RBI fielder’s choice by Joe Mathis.  Mathis then stole second and scored on a double by the next batter, Cota, as the RedHawks gained a seven-run advantage.

Kansas City finally broke through in the top of the sixth against Broc Coffman, scoring their first run on an RBI single by Greg Jacobs.  Ken Harvey (pictured) then blasted his 10th home run of the season to push the score to 7-3.  Coffman left after the inning having allowed three runs on five hits over six frames in the victory.

Boughner got one out in the seventh before leaving in favor of Brady Martinez with the bases loaded.  Martinez induced a foul popout before walking Ruben Salazar to force in the RedHawks eighth run of the contest.  Boughner suffered the loss after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 12 hits over six and one-thirds innings.

The T-Bones got one run off David Morgan in the ninth to pull within four but suffered the loss as they snapped a modest three-game win streak.

The two teams finish their short two-game set tomorrow as Kenny Durost takes the hill for Kansas City opposite Todd George for the RedHawks.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
