JOLIET, Ill. – The Joliet JackHammers rallied with two ninth-inning runs to tie the game and used a 10th-inning single from Joey Gomes to take the contest and their three-game series against the Kansas City T-Bones tonight, 4-3, in ten innings at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill.

Todd Moser made the start for Kansas City tonight and pitched effectively, allowing just one run on a Cory Harris home run in the second over his four innings of work.  Moser allowed just three hits while striking out two and walking two in his outing.  He did not factor into the decision.

The T-Bones picked up their first two runs in the first inning on a two-run double from Ken Harvey to take a quick 2-0 lead.  After inducing a flyout from Aharon Eggleston to begin the frame, Dustin Taylor walked Bo Hart and surrendered a single to Greg Jacobs to set the table for Harvey.

Taylor was responsible for Kansas City’s final run in the fifth when he surrendered a solo home run to John Martin to begin the frame.  Taylor allowed three runs on five hits over four and two-thirds innings in a no-decision.

Brady Martinez relieved Moser in the fifth and allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings.  He retired the final seven batters he faced.  Payton Tweddale walked one in a scoreless eighth for the T-Bones to keep the score at 3-1 heading into the ninth.

David Trahan walked the first two batters he faced in the ninth to put the tying run on with nobody out.  The next batter, Cory Harris, grounded hard to third between the legs of third baseman Eric Scriven, allowing Juan Diaz to score on the error while putting the tying run at third and winning run at second.  After an intentional walk to Gomes, Joe Hooft struck out before Nick Prosise reached on an infield single that plated Diaz.  Wally Backman, Jr. then grounded into a fielder’s choice at home and Steve Garrabrants struck out to keep the score tied at three.

The T-Bones went down in order in the 10th before Joliet got their first two runners on off Trahan in the bottom of the inning.  After getting two outs, Trahan surrendered a game-winning single to Gomes that plated Nick McIntyre for the deciding run.

Trahan suffered the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits over one and two-thirds innings.  Blake Ricken got the final out in the top of the 10th to pick up the victory.

The run scored by Joliet in the ninth snapped the scoreless innings streak for Kansas City’s bullpen at 15 and two-thirds innings.  They last allowed a run on August 6 in a 4-2 win at Schaumburg.

The T-Bones head home to face off against the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a five-game series beginning tomorrow.  Chris Shaver will take the mound for Kansas City in game one opposite Brian Forystek for Gary.  First pitch is set for 7:05.
