JOLIET, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones were held scoreless for the second time in four games tonight as they fell to the Joliet JackHammers, 2-0, at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill.

Chris Rhoads (pictured) and Brad Mumma traded zeros through the first five innings as each hurler held his opposition scoreless.  Rhoads allowed just three baserunners in that span, posting three perfect innings over the five-inning stretch.  Kansas City picked up leadoff singles in four of the five frames against Mumma.

Joliet finally broke through off Rhoads in the sixth, plating two runs to grab a 2-0 advantage.  Steve Garrabrants singled to start the frame before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick McIntyre.  A single by Juan Diaz moved Garrabrants to third before a fielder’s choice from Doc Brooks sent him home for the first run.  Rhoads then walked the next three hitters in succession to force in the second tally of the frame.  Wally Backman, Jr. picked up the second RBI of the inning with a walk.

Rhoads finished the sixth but left after allowing two baserunners with one out in the seventh.  Rhoads suffered the loss after surrendering just two runs on five hits over six and one-thirds innings.

Mumma held Kansas City scoreless over eight innings, retiring the last 12 batters he faced following a single by Geoff McCallum that began the fifth.  The left-hander earned the victory after surrendering just five hits while striking out six and walking one.

Ned Darley walked Jim Fasano with one out in the ninth but punched out the next two batters to pick up the save.

The two teams prepare for the rubber match of their three-game set tomorrow night.  Kansas City will send Anthony Snow to face a pitcher to be determined for the JackHammers.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
