SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Chris Rhoads (pictured) threw five and two-thirds innings of no-hit ball for Kansas City tonight as the T-Bones exploded for a 14-2 win over the Schaumburg Flyers to take a three-game series at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.

Kansas City was held scoreless by Steve Shippey through the first two innings before beginning their scoring with a two-run home run from Greg Jacobs in the third.  They got their third run of the contest in the fourth on an RBI triple by Aharon Eggleston, who later scored on a wild pitch to push their lead to four.

Shippey gave way to Lonnie Patterson after allowing two more baserunners with two outs in the frame.  Patterson walked the first batter he faced before surrendering a two-run double to Craig Hurba as Kansas City pushed the score to 6-0.  Shippey suffered the loss after allowing six runs on five hits over three and two-thirds innings.

The T-Bones picked up three more runs on three hits in the fifth, plating the last tally of the frame on a solo shot from Jacobs, his second of the game.  A two-run home run by Hurba in the sixth pushed their lead to 11-0.

Rhoads faced just one over the minimum through five and two-thirds innings due to an error by third baseman Neb Brown in the second.  The Flyers collected their first hit on Rhoads’ 87th pitch of the game when, with two outs in the sixth, Mark Haske reached on an infield single to second baseman Bo Hart.  The next batter, Julius Thames, doubled home Haske for the Flyers first run of the game.

Kansas City plated three more runs, two earned, on four hits and one error in the eighth to make the score 14-1.

Rhoads allowed an unearned run in the eighth when Lance Koenig reached on an error by Brown and scored on a sacrifice fly from Thames as Schaumburg pulled within 12.  The rookie hurler threw a perfect ninth, his sixth perfect inning of the contest, to complete the victory for Kansas City.  He allowed just two runs, one earned, on three hits in the game.

The complete game effort marked the first nine-inning complete game for a T-Bones pitcher this season.

The T-Bones head to Indiana tomorrow to face the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a three-game weekend set.  Neither team has announced their starters for game one of the series.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
