KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A three-run rally in the ninth fell short for the Kansas City T-Bones tonight as they dropped the second game of a three-game set, 10-9, to the Gary SouthShore RailCats in front of 6,518 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City took their only lead of the contest in the first inning when a solo home run by Bo Hart against Garret Holleran put the T-Bones up by one.  Gary quickly answered off Ty Reese in the second, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead.  A two-run shot from Cristian Guerrero drove in the first two tallies of the inning.

After Craig Hurba (pictured) homered in the bottom of the frame, the RailCats plated two unearned runs on one hit and two errors to gain a three-run advantage.  Kansas City pulled back within one in the fourth with a two-run frame, plating the first on Jim Fasano’s league-leading 17th home run.

Holleran would leave after five, surrendering four runs on nine hits as he earned his first professional victory.

The RailCats picked up a single run in the fifth on a home run by Tanner Townsend to push the score to 6-4.  Reese allowed the first two batters to reach in the sixth before inducing an out and giving way to Brady Martinez.  Martinez surrendered three hits in his two-thirds of an inning as Gary picked up their final four tallies on their way to a 10-4 lead.

Reese suffered the loss in his first professional start, allowing eight runs, six earned, on eight hits in the contest.

The T-Bones picked up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth with Hart capping off the frame with a solo shot for his second home run of the game.  Payton Tweddale entered for Kansas City in the seventh and threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit in that span.  David Trahan pitched a perfect ninth to keep the T-Bones within four.

Kansas City began their rally against the Northern League’s Pitcher of the Month for July, Koichi Misawa.  After a leadoff double by Steve Trout, Hurba drove in two with his second home run of the game.  Then, following three straight singles, Aharon Eggleston drew a bases-loaded walk for the T-Bones final run.  Misawa then induced a strikeout and foul popout to end the threat.

The T-Bones look to avoid the sweep tomorrow night as Anthony Snow takes the mound opposite Drew Dickinson for Gary.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:05.
