SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – A 6-0 lead after one-half inning quickly disappeared for the Kansas City T-Bones tonight as they fell 16-13 in the end to the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.

The T-Bones used seven hits against Steve Shippey to plate their six first-inning runs, collecting their first three tallies on a home run by Greg Jacobs.  Jim Fasano, Craig Hurba (pictured) and Neb Brown then each doubled consecutively for the next two runs before an RBI single from Geoff McCallum capped off the scoring.

Schaumburg quickly answered with three unearned runs off Kenny Durost in the bottom of the frame, capitalizing on three hits and two errors to pull within three.  The Flyers then took the lead in the second with a four-run frame, plating three on a home run by Peanut Williams.

Durost left after two, allowing seven runs on six hits.

Bobby Carrington entered for Durost in the third and held the Flyers scoreless in his first inning of work.  Carrington then surrendered seven runs, three earned, on six hits and one error in the fourth as Schaumburg took their largest lead of the game, 14-7.  Chris Gaskin drove in three of the runs with a home run.  Jermaine Allensworth added two more with a double.  All seven runs came with two outs.  Carrington took the loss for Kansas City.

Shippey held Kansas City scoreless over the second and third innings before surrendering single runs in the fourth through sixth innings.  The right-hander left after six innings, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in a winning effort.

Kansas City added two more runs on a home run by Hurba in the seventh and RBI single by Ken Harvey in the eighth to push the score to 15-11.  The Flyers plated their 15th tally off Payton Tweddale with an RBI single by Calvin Pickering in the sixth.

Tag Horner threw one and one-thirds scoreless innings in relief of Tweddale.  David Trahan allowed Schaumburg’s final run on two hits in the eighth to finish the game for Kansas City.

Jacobs singled home Aharon Eggleston against David Byard in the ninth to push the score to 16-12.  John Smith entered for Byard with the bases loaded and two out and walked Fasano to force in a run.  He then induced a groundout to Hurba to end the threat, picking up his third save of the season.

Hurba finished four-for-six with two doubles, a home run and three RBI to pace the T-Bones.  Jacobs extended his hit streak to 11 games with his first-inning blast.

The T-Bones look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon as they send Anthony Snow out to face Brian Finch for Schaumburg.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:20.
