Offense Stifled by New Flyers Hurler

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Justin Jordan held the Kansas City T-Bones to just one run over seven innings in his Flyers debut tonight as the T-Bones fell 5-2 to the Schaumburg Flyers at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.

The Flyers got on the board first against Anthony Boughner with a run in the second on an RBI groundout from Mark Haske.  The groundout plated Chris Gaskin, who reached on the first of three straight one-out walks by Boughner.  Geoff McCallum (pictured) answered quickly for Kansas City with a solo home run off Jordan in the top of the third to tie the game at one.

Jordan would not allow another run in his outing as he surrendered just four hits over seven innings to pick up the victory in his first appearance with Schaumburg.

Boughner matched Jordan until the sixth when the left-hander allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits.  Lance Koenig plated the first two with a home run, driving in Gaskin to begin the scoring.  Boughner would leave after surrendering a leadoff double to former T-Bone Calvin Pickering in the seventh.  Brady Martinez entered and allowed an RBI single to Gaskin to push Schaumburg’s lead to four, 5-1.

Boughner was charged will all five Flyers runs, four earned, on nine hits in six-plus innings as he suffered the loss.  Martinez finished the game for Kansas City, allowing three hits in two innings of work.

Kansas City grounded into a double play in three straight innings from the sixth through eighth frames.  Greg Jacobs led off the ninth with a single against John Smith and later scored the final run of the contest on a wild pitch.

Jacobs went two-for-four in the contest and has hit safely in all 10 games since his return to Kansas City.  He has now posted multiple hits in eight of those 10 games.

The two teams face off again tomorrow in game two of a three-game set as the T-Bones send Kenny Durost to face Steve Shippey of Schaumburg.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:20.
