Offensive Struggles Continue in 5-1 Loss07/14/2008 9:19 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones offense couldn’t support a solid outing from Chris Rhoads (pictured) tonight as they fell to the first place Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-1 tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The loss marks the T-Bones third consecutive defeat. Rhoads allowed just one run on two hits in five innings of work, suffering the loss after striking out a career-high eight batters. He surrendered his only run in the top of the third inning when Antoin Gray led off the inning with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout from Jeff DeSmidt. Ace Walker was stellar in his effort, allowing just one run on a solo home run from Ken Harvey in the ninth inning. He improved to 4-3 after surrendering seven hits and striking out four in a complete game. The Goldeyes batted around in the top of the seventh to plate their final four runs on four hits, pushing the score to 5-0 before Harvey’s blast capped off the scoring. Bobby Carrington relieved Rhoads for the T-Bones in the sixth inning and was charged with the final four Winnipeg runs over one and one-thirds innings. Brady Martinez finished the seventh inning and pitched the eighth, finishing with one and two-thirds scoreless innings. Payton Tweddale finished the game with a perfect ninth. The two teams face off again tomorrow in the second game of a four-game series when Anthony Boughner takes the mound against Winnipeg’s Brandon Kintzler. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. |
