KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones lost a pitcher’s duel tonight, 2-1, to the Schaumburg Flyers in front of 8,032 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.  Tonight’s crowd was the eighth largest in T-Bones team history.

Schaumburg scored first in the second inning on a solo home run by Kurt Crowell off T-Bones starter Kenny Durost (pictured).  Durost allowed another solo home run to Dan Maycock in the top of the fourth, making the score 2-0.  Durost received the loss despite throwing eight strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits while walking six and striking out four.

Schaumburg rookie Alex Rollin earned the win in his second career start, throwing seven innings, giving up one run on five hits.  Rollin struck out six T-Bones batters while walking just two.

The T-Bones plated their only run of the night in the bottom of the fourth when Jim Fasano hit a ground-rule double, scoring Aharon Eggleston from second.  Rob Watson was stranded at third to finish the inning.

Martinez faced two batters after entering for Durost in the ninth, surrendering two singles before giving way to Tag Horner.  Horner finished the frame without any damage, getting help from right fielder Kevin Mahar who threw out Crowell at home on a single by Hank Lanto.

The T-Bones threatened in the eighth, loading the bases with one out, but were unable to score.  Kansas City had the tying run 90 feet away against Flyer’s closer Jim Popp in the ninth.  However, Popp was able to pitch around a lead-off double by Steve Trout to earn his sixth save of the season.

The two teams face off in the rubber match tomorrow night as the T-Bones send Zac Stott to the mound to face Schaumburg’s Steve Shippey.  First pitch scheduled for 5:05.
