JOLIET, Ill. – The league’s top two scoring offenses squared off tonight as the Joliet JackHammers outslugged the Kansas City T-Bones 15-8 at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.

The T-Bones got a run off David Moraga on a single from Ken Harvey to begin the contest, but Joliet answered with three runs in their half of the frame against Rick Rivas to take a 3-1 advantage after one.  After both teams were held scoreless in the second, Brad Correll (pictured) gave the T-Bones their second run of the contest in the third with his 13th home run of the season.  The JackHammers then used a bases-clearing double from Wally Backman, Jr. in the bottom of the inning to pull ahead 6-2.

Kansas City got two more runs in the fourth on a wild pitch and RBI single from Geoff McCallum to pull within two.  Joliet struck again off Rivas in the bottom of the frame, scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly from Doc Brooks and an RBI single by Freddie Thon to take an 8-4 lead.

Rivas suffered the loss, leaving after surrendering eight runs on seven hits in three and two-thirds innings.  Moraga allowed his final run on an RBI bunt single from Kevin Mahar in the fifth before throwing a perfect sixth inning.  He earned the victory after surrendering five runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Correll hit his second home run of the game and 14th of the season off Chad Fillinger in the seventh.  He finished three-for-five with two RBI, extending his league-leading RBI total to 46.

Bobby Carrington got the final out of the fourth inning for the T-Bones and threw a perfect fifth before allowing four runs on three hits in the sixth.  Carrington walked in two runs in the frame before Joliet capped off the scoring with an RBI single from Backman and a sacrifice fly from Nick Prosise to push their lead to 12-5 after six.

Rick Hummel threw a scoreless seventh and Tag Horner allowed three runs, two earned, on an RBI single from Joseph Hooft and two-run single by Nick McIntyre to finish off Joliet’s scoring.  Kansas City plated their final runs on a wild pitch in the eighth and solo home run by Kevin Mahar in the ninth to put the final score at 15-8.  Mahar finished a triple short of the cycle.

Jim Fasano finished one-for-four with no runs batted in, extending his hit streak to nine games while seeing his RBI streak end at eight.

The two teams face off again tomorrow night as Anthony Boughner takes the hill for Kansas City against Nate Sevier of Joliet.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
