WINNIPEG, Manitoba – The Kansas City T-Bones dropped the first game of a three-game set, 6-5, tonight to the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 11 innings at Canwest Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  They are still without consecutive wins in June after tonight’s loss.

Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings before Kansas City plated three runs off Brandon Kintzler on two hits and an error in the fourth.  Aharon Eggleston drove in the first two scores with a double and came home on a single by the next batter, Geoff McCallum, to give the T-Bones a 3-0 advantage.  Brad Correll added another Kansas City run in the top of the fifth with his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot to extend the T-Bones lead to four.

Kenny Durost (pictured) was perfect through three for Kansas City before walking Fehlandt Lentini to start the fourth.  He held the Goldeyes scoreless until an RBI groundout from Max Poulin in the fifth.  The next batter, Lentini, then broke up Durost’s no-hit bid with a double but was stranded at third with Brent Metheny grounded out to end the frame.  It would be the only Winnipeg hit until the eighth inning.

Durost left after five innings, surrendering one run on one hit.  Kintzler allowed five runs, two earned, on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings.  Neither factored into the decision.

Kansas City picked up their final run on an RBI single from Jim Fasano in the sixth inning as the left-handed slugger extended his RBI streak to six games.

Chris Rhoads entered for Durost in the sixth and retired seven of the first eight batters he faced before surrendering a double to Metheny and a home run to Kevin West in the eighth to pull the Goldeyes within two, 5-3.  Brady Martinez came in for Rhoads, walking one and striking out one before giving way to Tag Horner.  Horner surrendered a single to the only batter he faced before leaving in favor of David Trahan, who induced a groundout to Jason Sherrer to leave the tying runs on base.

Trahan stayed in for the ninth, surrendering an infield single to Poulin before getting the next two batters with a strikeout and popout.  After a single from Metheny and a walk by West, Trahan gave up a two-run single to Tydus Meadows as Winnipeg tied the game at five.

Rick Hummel entered for Trahan in the 10th inning after the T-Bones closer was ejected along with manager Andy McCauley for arguing balls and strikes following the ninth.  The Goldeyes loaded the bases off Hummel in the 10th but couldn’t capitalize.  They loaded them again in the 11th, this time using a single from Nick Stillwagon over a drawn-in infield to give them a 6-5 victory.  Stillwagon entered as a pinch-runner in the 10th for Sherrer.

Hummel fell to 2-2 on the season after allowing the one run on five hits and two walks in one and one-thirds innings.  Brian Beuning improved to 2-1 after throwing perfect 10th and 11th frames.

The two teams face off again tomorrow as Zac Stott takes the hill for Kansas City against Andrew Walker for Winnipeg.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
