KANSAS CITY, Kan. –  The Kansas City T-Bones lost the rubber match of their three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers in 10 innings today, 12-5, in front of 8,001 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones struck first against Steve Shippey in the bottom of the third inning when Jim Fasano doubled in Rob Watson from first base, giving the T-Bones a 1-0 lead.  The Flyers answered in the top of the fourth when Kurt Crowell singled home Vince Harrison off T-Bones starter Zac Stott, tying the game at one.

Stott went five and one-third innings, giving up 11 hits and five runs while walking one and striking out four.  Shippey threw five innings for the Flyers, giving up four runs on nine hits.  Neither would factor into the decision.

The T-Bones re-gained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth, scoring two more runs off Shippey.  Ken Harvey led off the inning with a single and scored on a single by Steve Trout.  Eric Scriven singled and reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Smith, putting him in scoring position for Aharon Eggleston.  Eggleston doubled to score Scriven from second, giving the T-Bones a 3-1 lead.

Lance Koenig led off the top of the fifth with a single and stole second and third base before scoring on a two-out single by Jermaine Allensworth.  Allensworth would score on a single by Peanut Williams to bring the teams even, 3-3.  The see-saw battle continued as the T-Bones re-gained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run by Jim Fasano.  The Flyers responded in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, 5-4, on a two-run single by Mark Haske.

T-Bones relievers Chris Rhoads and Rick Hummel combined to pitch three and two-thirds scoreless innings to keep the Flyers lead at one.

Kansas City was held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth when Brad Correll hit his league-leading 11th home run to tie the game at five and send it to extra innings.

Schaumburg scored seven in the top of the 10th off T-Bones closer David Trahan, using six hits, two walks and an error to pull ahead 12-5.  Trahan suffered the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season.  Schaumburg’s David Byard improved to 2-1 on the year after allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief.  Brady Martinez got the final two outs for Kansas City, surrendering one hit while striking out one.

The T-Bones start a three-game series tomorrow night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark against the Joliet JackHammers.  Anthony Snow for Kansas City faces a pitcher to be determined for Joliet.  First pitch scheduled for 7:05.
