FARGO, N.D. – After the Kansas City T-Bones fell out of first place for the just the second time this season with a loss in game one of tonight’s doubleheader, they battled back against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to reclaim a share of first with a 7-6 victory in game two at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, Kansas City took a 1-0 lead off Broc Coffman when an RBI single from Steve Trout plated Eric Scriven in the second. Fargo answered with three runs off Kenny Durost in their half of the frame, using a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Zach Penprase and a two-run single from Joe Mathis to take a 3-1 lead.

Durost surrendered another run in the third on a solo home run from Alan Rick. Rick also homered in game one of the twinbill.  The T-Bones right-hander settled down briefly after the blast, retiring eight of the next nine batters he faced, including six in-a-row at one point.

Coffman left after the second inning with an apparent leg injury, giving way to David Morgan who threw two and two-thirds innings of relief for Fargo. Morgan surrendered his lone run in the fifth inning when Brad Correll drove in Trout with a single to push the score to 4-2.

Fargo got two more runs in the sixth to push their lead to four when Steve Mortimer doubled home Carlo Cota and later scored on a wild pitch by Durost. Kenny left after five and one-thirds innings, allowing six runs on six hits in a no-decision.

The T-Bones broke through for five runs in the seventh inning, using four hits, three walks and a wild pitch to take a 7-6 lead. A two-run double by Jim Fasano off Jake Laber and an RBI double from Aharon Eggleston (pictured) off Donnie Smith tied the contest at six. A wild pitch from Smith sent home Kevin Mahar for the game-winning run, propelling Kansas City to just their second win in June. Smith fell to 1-1.

Brady Martinez got the last two outs of the sixth for Kansas City as he improved to 1-1 on the season. Fargo got the go-ahead run into scoring position with nobody out against David Trahan, but the T-Bones got out of trouble with a popout, a lineout and a groundout as Trahan picked up his league-leading eighth save.

The two teams face off again tomorrow as Garry Bakker goes for Fargo against a pitcher to be determined for Kansas City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
