FARGO, N.D. – The Kansas City T-Bones suffered the loss in game one of their doubleheader tonight against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-3 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.

Fargo catcher Alan Rick drove in the first two runs of the game with two outs in the first inning, using a home run off Anthony Boughner (pictured) to give the RedHawks a quick 2-0 lead.

After a perfect first inning, Dane Renkert got the first two batters of the second before the next four batters reached off the right-hander.  The fourth batter, Aharon Eggleston, unloaded the bases with a double to put the T-Bones up 3-2.

Boughner used two double plays to get out of jams in the second and fourth innings before getting into trouble in the fifth.  Zach Penprase led off the frame with a double and came home on a single by the next batter, Joe Mathis, to tie the game at three.  After inducing two groundouts from the next two batters, Boughner was then called for a balk to send home Mathis with the RedHawks fourth run of the contest.  Two singles and two walks later, including an RBI walk from Steve Mortimer, Fargo grabbed a 5-3 lead.

Boughner left after four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on eight hits as he fell to 3-2.

Renkert settled down after the second inning, retiring 10 in-a-row before Rob Watson singled to lead off the sixth.  Brad Correll then reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a groundout by Jim Fasano, but was picked off second by reliever Donnie Smith to end the frame.

Renkert lasted five and one-thirds innings, allowing three runs on just four hits as he improved to 2-2.  Nate Cotton threw a perfect seventh to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Ken Harvey went 0-for-three with a strikeout in his T-Bones debut.  Rick Hummel got the last out in the fifth and walked the first batter of the sixth for Kansas City.  Tag Horner finished the sixth for the T-Bones.
