GARY, Ind. – The Kansas City T-Bones fell behind 4-0 in the first inning and 9-0 after five, but mounted a massive comeback against the Gary SouthShore RailCats, scoring 11 unanswered runs to get the victory 11-9 in ten innings at U.S. Steel Yard tonight in Gary, Ind.

The first two RailCat batters reached safely with walks against the newest T-Bones hurler, T.J. Nall. After a flyout by Jay Pecci, Steve Haake drove in the first Gary run with an infield single. Then, following a popout by Mike Reese, Tanner Townsend put the RailCats up 4-0 with a three-run home run.  Townsend added another RBI base hit in the third, driving in two more runs with a single to put Gary up 6-0 after three.

Nall left after surrendering a leadoff single to Brett Wallace in the fourth, allowing six runs on five hits over three-plus innings of work. Rick Rivas came in for Nall and surrendered three runs in the fifth, all coming home on an RBI double from Wallace that gave Gary a 9-0 advantage.  Rivas allowed three runs on two hits in two innings of work.

Tony Cogan started the contest for Gary and held the T-Bones to just one infield single by Neb Brown. He walked two in the fourth and hit Brown in the fifth, but kept the T-Bones off the board over six scoreless innings. He would not factor into the decision.

The T-Bones would move closer in the top of seventh scoring five times, all runs coming off RailCat reliever John Boker. Kevin Mahar doubled to open the inning, followed by a walk to John Martin who came in as a defensive replacement for Craig Hurba in the sixth. Neb Brown doubled home both runners and would eventually score with Nick Jaros on a double by Steve Trout, also in as a defensive replacement. Brad Correll singled home Trout to put the T-Bones within four.

Kansas City would get those four runs off reliever P.J. Bevis in top of the ninth. Jaros drew a leadoff walk, Trout walked two batters later and Rob Watson hit an infield single to load the bases. A balk by Bevis scored one run and with two outs, Jim Fasano homered to center, his first of the year, to tie the game at nine.

Matt Brinkmann struck out the side in the tenth, but not before surrendering two runs to cap off an 11-run comeback for Kansas City. Both runs scored on an RBI triple by Trout, who replaced shortstop Geoff McCallum in the sixth inning. Brinkmann suffered his first loss of the season.

Rich Hummel, Tag Horner and David Trahan combined to throw the final four scoreless innings for Kansas City.  Trahan picked up his first win of the season.

Game Notes: Nall left the game with a 1-2 count on Rob Marconi…Townsend’s five RBI is a career-high. His previous high was four, accomplished on three occasions…Townsend’s home run in the first was Gary’s first team home run of the season. They entered the contest as the only Northern League team without a home run…Martin replaced Hurba in the sixth inning to make his T-Bones debut.
