T-Bones Announce Former Royal, DeHart as Pitching Coach

04/30/2008 8:47 AM -
Kansas City T-Bones manager Andy McCauley has announced that Rick DeHart will be the T-Bones pitching coach for the 2008 season. DeHart was a mid-season acquisition to the pitching staff last season and will return this season as the pitching coach. Prior to pitching for the T-Bones last season, DeHart served as the pitching coach for the St. Joe Blacksnakes of the American Association.

“Rick DeHart is a guy that has pitched for me the last couple of years in the league,” said McCauley. “He’s had an extensive pitching career, pitching in Japan and in the Big Leagues for the Expos and Royals. He’s very knowledgeable about the game and pitching and he can use that to help the older guys and younger guys as well with his knowledge of mechanics. He’s going to be a great asset to the coaching staff.”

DeHart first broke into Major League Baseball with the Montreal Expos in 1997. He later surfaced in the Big Leagues with the Kansas City Royals in 2003. He has made 56 Major League appearances and compiled a 6.14 lifetime ERA. His minor league record was 69-79 with a 4.15 ERA.

T-Bones hitting coach Tim Doherty will return for his sixth season with the organization. He is the only uniformed member of the team that has been with the T-Bones since their move to Kansas City. This season will be his third as the hitting coach.

The T-Bones open their home schedule at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on May 23 against Schaumburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Single-game tickets, season tickets and mini plans are available now by calling the T-Bones box office at (913) 328-5618.
