T-Bones Add Potential Starter to Rotation

04/28/2008 8:27 AM -
The T-Bones have announced that they have signed right-handed pitcher Gerry Oakes and invited him to spring training. Oakes was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2000 draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He spent two seasons in the Brewers system before getting traded to the Twins in a deal that included Major Leaguers Matt Kinney and Javier Valentin.

Last season Oakes split time between class A San Jose and class A Augusta in the San Francisco Giants system.

“He has an electric arm,” said T-Bones manager Andy McCauley.  “We’re hoping he can make a bid for a starting job. His fastball is in the mid 90’s and we hope he can contribute.”

The T-Bones open their home schedule at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on May 23 against Schaumburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Single-game tickets, season tickets and mini plans are available now by calling the T-Bones box office at (913) 328-5618.
