T-Bones Sign Former 9th Round Draft Pick, Fasano

04/09/2008 3:58 PM -
Kansas City T-Bones manager Andy McCauley has announced the signing of former Texas Rangers ninth round draft pick Jim Fasano and former Montreal Expos 11th round pick David Trahan.

Fasano, 24, has spent his entire five year professional career in the Rangers system. He spent parts of the 2006 and 2007 seasons at class AA Frisco in the Texas League hitting 17 home runs in 165 at-bats. For his career, Fasano has hit .275 with 41 home runs and 232 RBI while slugging .436.

“He was recommended to us by Craig Hurba and Patrick Arlis,” said McCauley. “He’s a big left-handed stick that should hit in the middle of our lineup and he’ll see time at first base and DH allowing us to give Mario (Delgado) some time off.”

Trahan, 26, has played his entire professional career in Expos/Nationals system after getting drafted by the organization in 2004. Last season he pitched in 15 games for the class AA Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League compiling a 2.89 ERA in 18 2/3 innings striking out 14 and walking nine. Most of the season was spent with the Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League where he went 1-2 with a 2.66 ERA and a .211 batting average against. For his career he is 10-27 with a 4.50 ERA while holding opponents to a .287 average.

“We’re happy to get Trahan,” said McCauley. “He was sought after by a lot of independent teams coming off a good year in the Carolina League. We look for him to either set up or close for us this season.”

The T-Bones open their home schedule at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on May 23 against Schaumburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Single-game tickets, season tickets and mini plans are available now by calling the T-Bones box office at (913) 328-5618.
