KANSAS CITY, Kan. – With their playoff lives at stake, the Kansas City T-Bones pounded out seven runs on 14 hits, but fell in the end to the Gary SouthShore RailCats 12-7 in front of 9,208 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.  It was the second largest crowd in team history.  The loss eliminates the T-Bones from playoff contention, making the RailCats both first and second half South Division champions and gives the Winnipeg Goldeyes entry as the wild card.

T-Bones starter Anthony Boughner walked the first two batters he faced before an error by first baseman Mario Delgado allowed Eric McNamee to score from second, giving Gary their first run of the game.  A three-run home run by Jose Yepez later in the inning put the RailCats up 4-0.

The RailCats added two more in the second on a home run by Jay Pecci, his first of two home runs on the night.  Kansas City answered with three runs off Travis Kerber in the bottom of the frame, plating their first on an RBI single from Rob Watson.  A two-RBI single from Delgado later in the inning brought the T-Bones within one.

Gary responded with two more in the third on an RBI fielder’s choice from Nate Price and an RBI single from Mike Reese, giving them an 8-3 lead.  A two-RBI single from Patrick Arlis in the fifth pulled Kansas City within three.

Boughner allowed Pecci’s second home run of the game in the fifth, a two-run shot that gave Gary a 10-5 advantage, before being lifted for Raymond Jenkins.  Boughner took the loss, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on six hits in five and one-thirds innings.  He walked six and struck out zero on the night.

Gary added two more in the seventh off Jenkins before Kansas City used an RBI single from Eggleston to score their sixth run of the game in the bottom of the frame.  Kerber was pulled following the single, earning the victory after allowing six runs on 11 hits in six and two-thirds innings.

The T-Bones added another run on a solo home run from Pickering in the ninth, but were officially eliminated when Geoff McCallum fouled out to third.

Travis Schlichting got the last two outs of the seventh and Danny Core threw two scoreless innings to finish for Kansas City.  Steve Edsall relieved Kerber, allowing one run on three hits in the final two and one-thirds innings.

The two teams play their final games of the season tomorrow afternoon, with Rick DeHart taking the hill for the T-Bones versus Josh Habel of the RailCats.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:05.

Game Notes:  Kansas City set their all-time single game attendance record earlier this season on June 23 against Fargo.  They lost that game 10-2…For the second straight night, a RailCats player hit two home runs in the contest.  Last night it was Mike Reese.  Neither player, Pecci or Reese, has posted multi-HR games in their professional careers.  Until this season, Pecci hadn’t posted more than one home run in his previous five seasons…Boughner set new career highs for runs allowed and walks allowed in tonight’s contest.  His previous highs were eight runs and four walks.
