T-Bones Beef Up Local Parks Facilities

08/29/2007 9:04 PM -
The Kansas City T-Bones presented a check for $50,000 to the Unified Government's Parks and Recreation Department before Wednesday evening's game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Prior to their first season in Kansas City (2003), the T-Bones created the T-Bones Uncommitted Recreation Fund (TURF).  The T-Bones donate a portion of their ticket sales to the fund, which is administered by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.

TURF monies are specifically earmarked for capital improvements toward recreation.  This year, the donation will be matched by funds from the U.G., and will go toward renovations at the Regan Softball Fields, and multi-purpose fields at Eisenhower Park.  The softball fields are particularly critical to recreation in KCK as they annually host the metro-wide Special Olympics qualifying tournament.

The TURF Committee annually elects to fund two recreation projects, with one being non-baseball-specific.  Last year's contribution funded construction of a skate park at Pierson Park.
