SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Kansas City jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning and held on to take down the rival Schaumburg Flyers tonight 8-5 at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.  The RailCats picked up a victory earlier in the night, keeping the two clubs in a tie for first with six left to play.

The first three T-Bones batters of the game collected hits off Nat Harris with Geoff McCallum starting the game with a double before scoring on a single by Rob Watson.  Mario Delgado’s 15th home run of the season then gave Kansas City an early 3-0 lead.

Schaumburg leadoff hitter Anthony Monegan answered for the Flyers in the bottom of the frame with a solo home off Kenny Durost (pictured) to bring the Flyers within two.  Schaumburg would add a run in each of the next two innings on RBI singles by Alexander Derhak and Pat O’Sullivan respectively to tie the game at three.

Kansas City retook the lead in the fourth with a two-run frame, plating their first run on an RBI single from McCallum before a sacrifice fly from Al Benjamin made it 5-3.  Neither run was earned as the first batter, Nick Jaros, reached on an error by third baseman Dario Delgado, which meant the inning should have ended with Benjamin’s fly ball.

Harris retired the final nine batters he faced but suffered the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits in six innings.  Durost picked up the victory for Kansas City, allowing three runs on five hits in five innings.

Schaumburg scored their fourth run of the contest in the sixth inning off Raymond Jenkins, who walked Christian Snavely to start the inning.  Snavely then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Patrick Arlis.  A groundout from the next hitter, Kyle Leon, brought the Flyers left fielder home.

Jenkins put runners on second and third in the seventh when he surrendered two two-out hits, but got Dario Delgado to line out to second to end the threat.

The T-Bones scored a run on a sacrifice fly by Arlis in the seventh off Tyler Adamczyk and two more in the eighth off Jake Toohey on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Calvin Pickering.  Schaumburg used a solo home run from Mike Rohde off Matt Schweitzer to pull within three, but fell short in the end, 8-5.

Danny Core pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two for Kansas City.  Brandon Culp threw a perfect ninth for Schaumburg.

The two teams finish their five-game set tomorrow with Anthony Boughner going for Kansas City against Drew Dickinson of Schaumburg.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Game Notes:  Until tonight, just one Flyers starter, Drew Dickinson, had allowed more than two runs to Kansas City in this series.  All four runs Dickinson allowed came in the eighth inning on Friday night…Kansas City collected three times more hits tonight (12) than it had in each of it’s previous two games (4 in each contest)…Until last night, Mario Delgado hadn’t collected an extra-base hit in seven games.  He now has two straight games with a home run.
