DeHart Takes No-No Into Ninth as T-Bones Win 4-2

FARGO, N.D. – Kansas City pitcher Rick DeHart, making just his second start since joining the T-Bones last week, held the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks hitless until the ninth inning as the T-Bones took the three-game series with a 4-2 victory at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.

Fargo starter Todd George battled alongside DeHart for four innings, holding the T-Bones scoreless until the fifth inning in a classic pitcher’s duel.  Rookie outfielder Nick Jaros led off the fifth with a double, scoring on an RBI single by the next batter, Aharon Eggleston.  First baseman Mario Delgado (pictured, 23) led off the sixth inning with his 13th home run of the season, putting Kansas City up 2-0.

George was pulled in favor of Adam Rowe after Jaros reached on an error by third baseman Ruben Salazar in the seventh.  Rowe surrendered a single to Eggleston before getting the second out of the inning, a flyout to Geoff McCallum.  The next hitter, Rob Watson, singled home Jaros before Delgado doubled home Eggleston to end the T-Bones scoring for the afternoon.  George was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits in six and two-thirds innings.

But the story of the game was DeHart who faced the minimum through eight innings thanks to a double play in the third inning.  A walk to Adam Shorsher in the third was the only blemish in DeHart’s outing until Shorsher singled on a 1-2 pitch to lead off the ninth.  Prior to the single, Shorsher grounded a ball down the third baseline that Neb Brown fielded cleanly, but the ball was ruled just foul.  DeHart then left the game for Matt Schweitzer with the no-hitter spoiled.

Schweitzer struck out the first batter he faced before a double from Mike Just put runners on second and third.  Joe Mathis singled to score Shorsher and Just, but Schweitzer struck out Kory Wayment and induced a flyout from Tydus Meadows to end the game, securing the victory for DeHart who was charged with one run on one hit in eight innings of work.  He struck out seven and walked one in the contest.

Delgado led the T-Bones offensively, going four-for-five with a double, home run and two RBI.

Game Notes:  Watson extended his on-base streak to 25 games with his seventh inning single…Calvin Pickering walked in the fourth, extending his on-base streak to 26 games…Eggleston’s single in the fifth extended his on-base streak to 17 games and his hit streak to 10…The T-Bones have now won five of their last seven series.
