T-Bones Drop Rubber Match 6-4 in Gary

GARY, Ind. – The Gary SouthShore RailCats used two three-run innings to take the rubber match of a three-game series versus the Kansas City T-Bones tonight 6-4 at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.

Kansas City took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Al Benjamin, scoring Geoff McCallum who started the game off with a single.

T-Bones starter Chris Krawczyk (pictured) retired the first four batters he faced before surrendering a single and a double to Jose Yepez and Jermaine Allensworth respectively, both of whom scored on a single by the next batter, Nate Price.  Price would later score on a passed ball, giving Gary a 3-1 advantage.

Kansas City was held scoreless through the second and third innings before plating a run off Gary starter Travis Kerber on an RBI single by Nelson Gord in the fourth.  The T-Bones took the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Mario Delgado and an RBI single from Benjamin.

Krawczyk gave up two singles in the bottom of the sixth before being lifted for Travis Schlichting.  Schlichting surrendered a single to the first batter he faced, Price, to load the bases before walking Eric Blakeley to force in the tying run.  The next hitter, Eric McNamee, then plated two runs with a single to give Gary a 6-4 lead after six.  Krawczyk was charged with the loss after surrendering five runs, four earned, on six hits.  Kerber picked up the victory, allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Sean Kramer allowed just one baserunner in a scoreless seventh in his T-Bones debut.  Danny Core threw a perfect eighth for Kansas City.  Tony Cogan picked up his 15th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Kansas City now heads to Fargo for a three-game weekend series against the North Division leading RedHawks.  Dan Jackson will go for the T-Bones versus Dan Renkert of Fargo.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.

Game Notes:  Rob Watson singled in the first to extend his on-base streak to 22 games…Pickering walked in the fourth to extend his on-base streak to 23 games.  He failed to get a hit in the contest, stopping his hit streak at eight…Kansas City fell to 2-6 in rubber matches this season.  They have been outscored 57-64 in those contests…Kansas City had won three straight series before dropping this series to Gary.  They have won four of their last six series.
