KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For the second straight week, a Kansas City T-Bones player was named the Northern League Player of the Week as infielder Rob Watson took home the honors for the week ending July 29, 2007.  Calvin Pickering was named Player of the Week for the week ending July 22.

Watson, who is second in the Northern League with a .370 average, batted .538 (14-for-26) with 15 RBI, six doubles and seven runs scored on the week. His 15 RBI in that span drove in more than a quarter of the team’s 55 runs. Watson’s hot streak aided the T-Bones to a 3-3 week, which now sees Kansas City sit atop the South Division second half standings.

The 5-10, 180-pounder, is in his second year in the Northern League after playing in 75 games for the Schaumburg Flyers last season. The Detroit Tigers originally drafted him in the 17th round of the 2002 amateur draft. Following two seasons in the Tigers farm system, he was traded to the San Diego Padres in March 2004.

The right-handed hitting native of Riverside, California, is having a career year. He has already established single-season career highs in runs scored (57), home runs (5) and runs batted in (52). In addition to ranking near the top of the league in batting, he also leads the league in on-base percentage (.469) and is third in the league in hits (57).
