08/13/2003 9:36 AM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Jayson Sigley earned his fourth win of the season by pitching a complete game in Kansas City’s 9-1 victory over Sioux Falls Wednesday night. Sigley scattered nine hits and struck out five in his first complete game effort of the season.

The Kansas City bats, seemingly dormant only a night ago, exploded for sixteen hits against Canaries’ pitching. Eddie Pearson and Rodney Clifton led the way with three hits and two RBIs each. Seven of the nine batters in the Kansas City lineup had multi-hit games and eight of nine batters reached base at some point. The T-Bones fell just three hits shy of their season record of nineteen hits, which they accomplished July 18 at Sioux Falls.

Kansas City began its hit romp early. After recording two quick outs in the bottom of the first, Rick Prieto singled up the middle. Eddie Pearson then followed with his twelfth home run of the season to right field. It was Pearson’s second home run in three games and it puts him just one home run behind Gary’s Tim Flaherty for the league lead.

The T-Bones struck again in the third inning when Rodney Clifton hit his first of two RBI doubles. Chad Shindle then followed with a single that scored Pearson and Clifton to make the score 5-0.

The five run lead would be more than enough room for Jayson Sigley. Sigley’s only blemish on the evening came in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Charles Peterson doubled down the left field line to advance Felix Pagan to third base. Pagan would score on an RBI groundout with Sioux Falls’ only run on the evening.

Peterson’s double would be the only extra base hit that Sigley (4-2) surrendered. He scattered eight singles and got Sioux Falls to leave a total of eleven runners on base over the course of the evening. The win now gives him a 2-0 record with a 1.64 ERA in his last three starts.

Kansas City added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to close the door on the Canaries. A Rick Prieto walk to load the bases chased Canaries’ starter Chad Johnson (7-6) from the game. Johnson took the loss as he allowed seven runs on eleven hits in over five innings of work.

The T-Bones look to win their seventh consecutive home series with a victory tomorrow night in the final game of the four game series. Nate Sevier takes the mound for the T-Bones and will be faced by Richie Burgess for Sioux Falls. It’s Elvis Night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark as anybody wearing an Elvis costume will get a dollar off select seating. To receive the discount, the costume must include at least Elvis glasses and sideburns. The best Elvis costume will win a twenty-dollar gift certificate to The Meat Locker. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m.
