T-Bones Snake Bitten, 9-5

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Kansas City T-Bones fell 9-5 to the Calgary Vipers in front of 6,035 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Calgary opened the contest with a two-run first inning off T-Bones starter Lavon Lewis when Darryl Brinkley and Nelson Castro scored on a single by Mitch Evans.  The T-Bones answered in the second inning when Calvin Pickering scored on an RBI single by Jason Belcher.  The Vipers tacked on two more in the third with a solo home run by Carlos Duncan and an RBI single from Drew Miller, extending the Vipers lead to 4-1. 

Kansas City pulled within two on a solo home run by Nelson Gord (pictured) in the bottom of the fourth before Calgary added one of their own in the top of the sixth.  The T-Bones added two more on back-to-back RBI singles from Belcher and Aharon Eggleston, making it 5-4.

Lewis left the game with two outs in the sixth inning and suffered the loss having allowed five runs on 10 hits.  Travis Schlichting replaced Lewis and surrendered three runs on four hits in the seventh inning, giving Calgary an 8-4 lead.

Kansas City responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run from Mario Delgado off Calgary starter Chris Schutt.  Schutt picked up the win for the Vipers, allowing eight hits and five runs in seven innings.  Tom Lyons pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings in relief for Calgary.  Brett Reid allowed one run on three hits in two innings of relief for Kansas City.

The two teams square off again tomorrow with Anthony Boughner throwing for Kansas City against Evan Greusel of Calgary.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Game Notes:  Every Calgary batter collected at least one hit with six Vipers posting multi-hit games…The top four hitters for Calgary went 10-for-22 with three RBI…Aharon Eggleston went two-for-four to extend his on-base streak to 15 games and his hitting streak to eight.
