GARY, Ind. – Kansas City starter Trevor Caughey was effective in his first start for the T-Bones but was outdone by Gary ace Willie Glen in a 4-2 loss at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary.

Both pitchers held the opposing offenses scoreless through the first two innings, with Kansas City getting the only baserunner in that span on a single from Mario Delgado.  It was Gary who struck first though when Mike Reese homered off Caughey in the third inning, scoring Dave Detienne who led off the frame with a walk.

The T-Bones put two runners on base in both the fourth and fifth innings, but Glen was able to get out of both innings without any damage.  His offense gave him two more runs of support in the bottom of the fifth when Jay Pecci doubled home Reese and Dale Mueller for a 4-0 RailCats lead.

Kansas City finally broke through in the seventh off Glen on a two-out, two-run home run from Nelson Gord, scoring Austin Easley who led off the inning with a walk.  Glen then got Aharon Eggleston to end the inning before handing it over to the bullpen for the final two innings.

Glen allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out 11 in seven innings as he improved to 5-0 on the season.  Caughey was saddled with the loss having allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings.  Former Royal Tony Cogan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two, for his league-leading ninth save of the season.

Justin Costi and Brett Reid pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings for Kansas City in the loss.

The T-Bones are off tomorrow before opening a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Calgary Vipers.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Game Notes:  Eggleston singled in the fifth inning to extend his on-base streak to 14 games, the longest on-base streak for a T-Bone this season.  He also extended his current hit streak to seven games.  He did fail to steal a base, however, ending his streak of four straight games in which he had done so…The loss for Kansas City ended a five-game win streak against Gary SouthShore…Gord’s home run in the seventh was his second of the season and his second in as many games.  It ties a career high for the utility man, a mark he has now set three times…Willie Glen’s 11 strikeouts are a season high for the RailCats.
