GARY, Ind. – The Kansas City T-Bones won their third straight with a 3-2 win over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Saturday night at U.S. Steel Yard.  The T-Bones jumped out to an early lead and did not look back, scoring in the first with a two-RBI bloop single and adding to their lead again in the fourth with a Nelson Gord solo blast.  The pitching ran with the lead, as starter Kenny Durost turned in a strong performance for his third win of the season and reliever Matt Schweitzer followed with one and two-thirds scoreless innings, pitching out of trouble in the seventh. 

Kansas City took advantage of RailCats starter Steve Obenchain early control struggles when they loaded the bases on three consecutive walks to Rob Watson, Neb Brown and Mario Delgado in the first inning.  Austin Easley then came through in the clutch with a two-out broken bat single to shallow center that scored Watson and Brown, giving Kansas City the early 2-0 edge.

Gord supplemented the lead in the fourth with a solo home run that put the game at 3-0. The home run was the first of the season for the T-Bones utility player, who went two-for-four with the home run and a double.

The RailCats got on the board in the fifth when Brett Wallace hit a solo shot to left.  Later in the inning, Gary pulled within one as Dale Mueller walked and came around to score on a two-out bloop single by Jay Pecci.

Schweitzer came in for Durost in the seventh with the tying run at third and one out.  He got Eric McNamee to flyout to right and Jay Pecci to ground out to third to end the threat. Schweitzer also pitched a scoreless eighth, securing the lead for closer Dan Jackson.  Jackson came in and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his career-high seventh save of the season.

The series concludes tomorrow afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard when Trevor Caughey takes the mound for the T-Bones against Gary ace Willie Glen. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05.
