T-Bones Drop Another on the Road, 7-5

06/13/2007 9:20 PM -

JOLIET, Ill. – The T-Bones and JackHammers battled for six innings before a three-run seventh inning put Joliet up for good as Kansas City fell 7-5 at Silver Cross Field.

The T-Bones got out to a quick 2-0 lead after two sacrifice flies from Rob Watson and Mario Delgado plated Aharon Eggleston and Neb Brown (pictured) in the first inning.  Eggleston and Brown reached on a single and a walk respectively before advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch from Joliet starter Nate Sevier.

Joliet responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game and took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the second off Kansas City starter Lavon Lewis.  After a two-RBI double from Calvin Pickering tied the game at four in the third inning, both starters settled down and held the opposing offense scoreless for the rest of their outings.  Lewis would leave without factoring into the decision after five innings having allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits.  Sevier went seven, allowing four runs, one earned, on five hits to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Travis Schlichting pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief of Lewis before the JackHammers touched him up for three runs in the seventh inning.  Singles from Cory Harris and Derek Nicholson plated two of the runs for Joliet with Juan Diaz scoring the third run on a throwing error by Schlichting when the T-Bones hurler tried to get Nicholson after he had taken a wide turn at first base.  Schlichting would suffer his second loss of the season.

Kansas City added another run in the ninth on a triple from Aharon Eggleston, but Aaron Williams finished out the inning without surrendering any more runs for his second save of the season.

Game Notes:  Donaldo Mendez was ejected in the second inning after arguing about not being granted time during his at-bat.  Dylan Parzyk entered the game to catch as Jason Belcher moved to left field, Nelson Gord from left to third, and Rob Watson from third to short…The T-Bones fall to 1-4 on their current road trip and are now 2-10 away from CommunityAmerica Ballpark this season…Neb Brown extended his current on-base streak to nine games after going 1-2 with three walks.
