08/08/2003 9:32 AM - Jayson Sigley pitched into the eighth inning allowing only one run on five hits in Kansas City’s 5-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers Friday night. It was the T-Bones third win in a row, moving their record to 13-10 on the second half of the season.

Kansas City quickly got on the board in the first inning. Chris LePine led off the inning with a single. He then advanced to second with a stolen base. After advancing to third on a Taber Maier ground out, he came home on Rick Prieto’s RBI ground out to make the score 1-0.

Sigley (3-2) held the Sioux City hitters to only one extra base hit all game. Unfortunately for Sigley that hit came in the form of a home run by right fielder Desi Wilson to open the fourth inning. The home run tied the score at 1-1, but the Explorers would not manage any more hits on the evening.

The T-Bones broke the tie and took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sioux City’s starter Mel Spivey (0-4) quickly got LePine and Maier to record the first two outs of the inning. After a Rick Prieto single, Eddie Pearson managed to reach on an error by third baseman Jeremy Smith. Rodney Clifton took advantage of the blunder with a single through the left side that scored Prieto with the go ahead run. A bases loaded walk to Jack Jones brought home another run to put Kansas City ahead 4-1.

Eddie Pearson once again was able to continue his hot streak at the plate. The Northern League Player of the Month in July got three more hits, including and RBI single in the seventh inning that scored the final run for the T-Bones and made the score 5-1.

The four run lead would be all that reliever Jason Davis would need to finish the game. Davis got Casey Baker to ground into a game ending 1-6-3 double play to earn his first save of the season. With the victory, the T-Bones keep pace with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks who scored two runs in the ninth inning to beat Lincoln 4-3. Kansas City remains one game out of first place.

A win tomorrow would mark only the second time all season that Kansas City had a winning streak of four or more games. The series versus the Explorers continues tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Nate Sevier get the call for the T-Bones and will be matched by Adam Springston.
