WINNIPEG, Mb. – Although the Kansas City T-Bones fought an early 4-0 deficit, the Winnipeg Goldeyes held on to an 8-6 victory.

Winnipeg used five straight two-out hits off T-Bones starter Anthony Boughner in the first inning to take the early lead, with doubles from Jimmy Hurst and Scott Schade highlighting the outburst.  Hurst’s double began the hit parade with a single by the next batter, Walter Young, driving him in.  Brent Metheny drove home Young with a single and Antoin Gray scored on a throwing error by center fielder Aharon Eggleston on the play.  Schade’s double plated Metheny to cap off the scoring.

The T-Bones would answer in the fourth, scoring five runs on six hits in the inning.  Rob Watson singled and Neb Brown doubled to start the frame before the Goldeyes starter Benjamin Moore struck out Mario Delgado for the first out.  Calvin Pickering picked up an RBI on a groundout to second base for the second out of the inning before the next five T-Bones reached base, four with hits.  Jason Belcher, Austin Easley, Travis Schlichting and Eggleston drove in the other four runs in the inning.

Down 5-4, the Goldeyes re-took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-RBI double from Max Poulin that scored Metheny and Luis Alen.

Brad Correll (pictured) evened the score again in the sixth inning when he led off the frame with a solo home run, his fourth of the season.  However, the tie was short lived when Alen singled home Metheny in the bottom of the inning for a 7-6 Winnipeg lead.  Boughner finished the sixth inning and stuck with the loss having allowed seven runs on eight hits in the contest.

After a perfect inning from Matt Schweitzer in the seventh, Kansas City sent out Dan Jackson in the eighth.  The Goldeyes capitalized on two walks from Jackson to add one more run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from Poulin.

Steve Russell picked up the victory after pitching the sixth and seventh innings for the Goldeyes, allowing one hit and striking out two in his two scoreless innings.  Matt Davis allowed one hit in a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season.

Game Notes:  Winnipeg’s first and second hitters, Cameron Coughlan and Fehlandt Lentini, were the only two not to get a hit in today’s game. Winnipeg outscored the T-Bones 34-18 in their four-game sweep.
