T-Bones Battle for First Place with Redhawks

08/04/2003 11:33 AM - The T-Bones are in Fargo this weekend in a battle for first place in the Western Division. The T-Bones have occupied the first place position for the majority of the second half of the season, and the Redhawks have been hot on their tails.

In the first game of this series against the Redhawks, the T-Bones got the shut out with a score of (2-0). Erik Grunwald did an outstanding job keeping the Redhawks’ bats silent until the eighth inning when D.J. Johnson came in to shut the door. Despite hitting the first batter he faced, Johnson put the cherry on top of that sweet finish for the T-Bones. This win put the T-Bones back in a first place tie with the Redhawks.

In Saturday’s game, the Redhawks struck fast and hard against their division rivals with two runs in the second inning making the score 2-0. Neither team scored any more until the top of the ninth when the T-Bones rallied for three runs getting an RBI single from SS Jack Jones and a two-run pinch hit single from Chad Shindle to take a 3-2 lead. The Redhawks responded in dramatic fashion in the bottom half of the inning, as Eddie Gerald led off the frame with a solo home run to right field to tie the game at 3-3. The game went in to extra innings, but in the bottom of the tenth, the Redhawks’ Joe Mathis scored on Toby Rumfield’s double.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. RHP Nate Sevier (5-4) is scheduled to pitch for the T-Bones, and Matt Burch (0-0) will pitch for the Redhawks. The T-Bones will be back in Kansas City on Tuesday night at 7:05p.m., when they play the Gary-Southshore RailCats. Tickets are still available, so call the (913) 328-2255 to reserve your seats.
