T-Bones Can't Put Goldeyes Away

07/30/2003 11:30 AM - Kansas City opened the scoring with a pair in the second when David Keesee's two-out single off Joey Cramblitt (6.2 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 SO) scored Rodney Clifton (3-5, HR, 3 R, RBI) and Jack Jones. Winnipeg responded right away on Poulin's third homer of the year, but the lead was short-lived, as the T-Bones scored three more in the third.

Taber Maier led off with a single and was on his way to second two batters later on a Rick Prieto grounder that Cramblitt fielded and threw wildly. With both runners safe, Clifton singled to left to load the bases, but Rusty Keith overran the ball, allowing Maier to score the tying run. After Jones flew out, Skip Adams (2-4, 2 RBI) singled to score Prieto and Clifton to make it 5-3.

Undaunted, Winnipeg came back with three more to chase Tony Gomes (3.0 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 3 SO) in the fourth then tacked on another four in the fifth. With the Goldeyes up 6-5, Greg Morrison led off with his ninth homer to make it 7-5. Sacrifice flies by Charles Alley and Brent Sachs and a single by Pat Scalabrini would bring in three more runs to make it 10-5. Kansas City replied in the eighth on a Clifton homer off Graham Mazur, to make it 10-6, but that was as close as it would get.

Tonight the T-Bones will have another chance when Tony Bacci (4-5), will go up against Brad Purcell (5-2). The FargoMorehead Redhawks were supposed to play the Sioux Falls Canaries, but the game was postponed, which keeps the T-Bones in first place in the Western Division.
