RedHawks bury T-Bones early, claim 8-3 decision

07/25/2006 10:11 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (37-23, 5-7) came out swinging Tuesday evening, scoring four times in the opening frame and cruising to an 8-3 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (28-32, 6-6) before a crowd of 6,106 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The RedHawks jumped all over T-Bones' starter Greg Bicknell in the first, sending nine batters to the plate in a four-run inning. Joe Mathis led-off the contest with a base-hit, swiped second, then came home on the first of Jesse Hoorelbeke's two RBI-singles on the night to give Fargo a 1-0 lead. After back-to-back singles by Richard Austin and Harry Berrios, Hoorelbeke scored on a fielding error by third-baseman Doug Dreher to extend the margin to two runs, before Allen Mottram put the finishing touches on the inning with a two-run double.

After going down in order in the second, Fargo-Moorhead kick-started its offense again in the third inning, striking for three more runs to extend its advantage to 7-0. Ruben Salazar provided the key blow, singling down the left-field line to bring home Austin and Berrios.

Hoorelbeke delivered his second run-scoring hit in the fourth, singling home Brent Krause for his Northern League-leading 55th RBI of the season to push the Fargo lead to 8-0.

The T-Bones got on the board in the fourth on Darryl Lawhorn's RBI-double to right, then scored again the following inning when Greg Jacobs tripled to lead-off the frame and came home on Charles Peterson's single to center field.

Jacobs, who went 2-for-5, added an RBI-single in the ninth to bring the final tally to 8-3.

RedHawks' starter Brion Treadway (1-0) made the most of his Fargo debut, allowing just two runs in his six innings of work to pick up the victory.

Bicknell (5-8) suffered the loss after completing just two innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.

Hoorelbeke and Mottram each posted two hits and two RBI's, and Kory Wayment added three hits to lead the Fargo-Moorhead offense.

Dreher provided one of the few bright spots for the T-Bones, going 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The T-Bones will wrap up their three-game set with Fargo-Moorhead with an 11:05 a.m. contest Wednesday before heading to Gary for a weekend series. RHP Jonathan Krysa (8-2, 3.83) will toe the rubber for the home team, while the RedHawks will counter with RHP Brandon Culp (5-5, 5.28).

Game Notes: Tuesday's start was the shortest of Greg Bicknell's three-year stint as a T-Bone; his previous low was 2.1 IP vs. Sioux Falls on July 13, 2004...Greg Jacobs fifth-inning triple extended his home on-base streak to 31 games...Doug Dreher's four-hit game was his first as a T-Bone and matched a career high.
